ENOWA and Nanostone Water, Inc. (NSW) are pleased to announce an agreement to collaborate on the application of Ceramic Ultrafiltration Membrane for Brine Mining in NEOM, located in northwest Saudi Arabia. The signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will take place during the prestigious Singapore International Water Week (SIWW), held from June 18 to 22, 2024.

This partnership marks a significant step towards advancing sustainable water solutions and transforming desalination brine waste into valuable resources. The MoU outlines the collaborative efforts of ENOWA and NSW to develop and implement Ceramic Ultrafiltration (CUF) technology for brine mining, an important component of ENOWA’s circular economy strategy.

The MoU will focus on a one-year pilot testing of CUF membranes to harvest minerals and metals from desalination and cooling tower blowdown brine. This project aims to create a revenue stream while developing an environmentally sustainable method of managing desalination waste. Successful pilot results will pave the way for scaling up the design for commercial facilities.

Gavin van Tonder, Managing Director of ENOWA Water, stated: “We are excited to partner with Nanostone Water, Inc. in this pioneering project. This collaboration underscores our commitment to sustainable water management in NEOM, and innovative solutions that could have far-reaching global impact. By transforming desalination brine waste into valuable resources, we will contribute significantly to an essential circular economy.”

Jürgen von Hollen, CEO of Nanostone Water, Inc., commented: “This MoU represents a significant milestone in our mission to deliver advanced water treatment technologies. We look forward to a fruitful partnership with ENOWA and to applying our technology and solutions to advance sustainable and cost-effective water supply.
